NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY, KHADAKWASLA, PUNE

Eligibility: Age between 16 ½ to 19 yrs as of first day of the month in which course is due to commence

Qualification: 12th Class of 10+2 System of Education/ Equivalent for Army and with Physics and Maths for AF/Navy

Vacancies: 300 (twice a year). It includes Army – 195, Air Force – 66 and Navy – 39

Examination conducted and notified by the UPSC in Employment News and leading newspapers in Jun and Dec

Examination pattern: National Defence Academy and Naval Academy

Examination, a five-day Service Selection Board (SSB) interview and medical fitness

Commencement of Training: Jan and Jul

Duration: Three years plus

  • one-year at IMA (for army cadets)
  • one-year at Naval Academy( for naval cadets)
  • one and half year AFA Hyderabad (For AF cadets)

THE INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY, DEHRADUN

1. Combined Defence Service Examination (CDSE) Direct Entry (Non- technical)

Eligibility: Age between 19 and 24 yrs

Qualification: Graduation from recognised university

Vacancies: 250 (twice a year per course)

Notified by UPSC under the aegis of CDSE in May/Jun and Nov/Dec

Examination pattern: CDSE (conducted by UPSC), SSB interview, medical test

Commencement: Jan and Jul

Duration: 18 months

2. University Entry Scheme

Eligibility: Age between 19 and 25 yrs

Qualification: Pre-final year students of Engineering degree course

Vacancies: 60 (per course)Notified by Additional Directorate General Recruiting / AG Branch in May.

Examination pattern: SSB in Jul/Aug during final year

Commencement: July

3. Technical Graduate Course (TGC) Engineering

Eligibility: Age between 20 and 27 yrs

Qualification: BE / B.Tech final appearing and degree holders in notified streams of Engineers

Notified by Additional Directorate General Recruiting / AG Branch in May/Jun and Nov/Dec

Examination pattern: SSB in Oct-Nov and Apr-May

Commencement: Jan and Jul

Duration: One year

OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY, GAYA

10+2 Technical Entry Scheme (TES)

Eligibility: Age between 16 ½ to 19 & 1/2 yrs

Qualification: Class 12 of 10+2 System of Education/equivalent with a minimum

aggregate of 70% in Physics, Chemistry & Maths (PCM)

Vacancies: 85 (per course)

Examination pattern: SSB in Sep to Oct and Jan to Apr

Phase I: One-year pre-commissioning training at OTA Gaya and three-years at CME

Phase-II: One-year post commission training at CME Pune/MCTE Mhow/MCEME

SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION

You will join the Indian Defence Force as a Commissioned Officer and serve for a

period of 10 years with an extension of 4 years. At the end of the tenure, you will

have the option of choosing between Permanent Commission, extension of four

years or voluntary retirement.

OFFICER”S TRAINING ACADEMY, CHENNAI

1. Graduate (Non–technical) Men

Eligibility: Age between 19 and 25 yrs

Qualification: Graduation from recognised university

Vacancies: 175 (twice a year per course)

Examination pattern: SSB in Nov/Dec and May/Jun

2. NCC (SPL) Entry Men

Eligibility: Age between 19 and 25 yrs

Qualification: Final year appearing/Graduate with 50% aggregate, two-years

service in NCC Senior Div Army with minimum ‘B’ Grade in ‘C’ Certificate Exam.

Vacancies: 50 (twice a year per course)

Examination pattern: SSB in Dec/Jan and Jun/Jul

Commencement: Apr and Oct

Duration: 49 weeks

3. Short Service Commission Technical Men

Eligibility: Age between 20 to 27 yrs

Qualification: Engineering degree in notified discipline

Examination pattern: SSB in Nov to Jan and May to July

Commencement: Oct and Apr

Duration: 49 Weeks

4. Judge Advocate General MEN

Eligibility: Age between 21 and 27 yrs

Qualification: Graduate with LLB / LLM with 55 percent marks. Registered with Bar

Council of India / State
