Naval air-arm The naval air-arm is an important component of the Indian Navy. The Indian Navy air arm comprise fleets of fighter aircrafts and helicopters that operate from the aircraft carrier. They play a very significant role in keeping vigil on anti-submarine warfare, anti-piracy and anti-terrorism.

Ships and submarines

The names of ships of the Indian Navy are prefixed with the letters INS, designating Indian Naval Ship or Indian Navy Station. The fleet of the Indian Navy has both domestic built and foreign vessels.

Weapon systems

India has a number of foreign made cruise missile systems. The weapons cater to Indian needs using Indian-designed components and technology, including its fire control systems, transporter erector launchers, and its onboard navigational attack systems.

Electronic warfare and systems management

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy jointly developed an electronic warfare programme. The devices are competent to intercept frequency and radars.

Information technology cadre

The Navy also relies on information technology to face the challenges of the 21st century. With increasing cyber terrorism and attacks on its networks, the navy has created a separate cell for communications, space and network centric operations (CS&NCO)
